ERDF projects

Aid European Regional Development Fund of the EU

SANTIAGO PONS QUINTANA, SA has implemented, with the help of the European Regional Development Funds (FEDER) and the Government of the Balearic Islands, four innovation projects at its facilities in Alaior - Menorca.

1.- Year 2017 - Productivity improvement in the Assembly and Packaging sections, through the implementation of the "LEAN MANAGEMENT" system.

The design and manufacture of footwear is one of the few economic activities of the secondary sector that remain in Menorca. Its dimensions and positive externalities for the Menorcan economy are important both directly and indirectly and represent one of the few important pillars outside tourism with future prospects.

The footwear manufacturing companies that exist in Menorca today have always invested heavily in product innovation, machinery and training, in any case the constant increase in insularity, the relocation of competition, as well as the need to add At the prices of the raw material, the costs of transportation entail a significant challenge and the need to undertake determined actions to improve the efficiency of the production processes and internal operation.

The project carried out with the support of the Balearic Government and the Regional Development Funds of the European Union (FEDER Operational Program 2014-2020 of the Balearic Islands) represents a turning point in the production procedures of PONS QUINTANA.

The project represents a substantial increase in the participation of the people who work day by day with the PONS QUINTANA product with the aim of improving both the organization of production and the quality of our products.

The system used to carry out this project is called "Lean Management" or production without waste. This methodology has its origin in the automotive industry with the aim of increasing productivity and efficiency, eliminating the waste of time, transportation, overprocessing, stocks, movements and overproduction.

The project starts from an analysis through the collection of specific data, the establishment of reliable indicators and counting on the people who participate in the process with the aim of reducing costs, increasing the quality of the product and service.

The project, which includes all the production phases of the indicated sections, tends to systematize and modernize the manufacturing process and is a novelty in the footwear sector on the island of Menorca.

2.- Year 2017 - Development of an application for the automatic capture of orders.

Secondly, the design and implementation of an application that allows employees and representatives of PONS QUINTANA to automatically upload orders to the entity's computer system has also been completed, avoiding wasting time writing manual and the errors that the multiple transcriptions can cause in the orders and in their manufacture and service.

3.- Year 2018 - Productivity improvement in the packing section, through the implementation of the "LEAN MANAGEMENT" system

4.- Year 2018 – Development and implementation of a 3-dimensional design system embedded in pre-existing design systems and with 2-dimensional cutting machinery.

The design process has evolved in recent times associated with the need to anticipate trends and respond to the market as quickly as possible.

Through the 3-dimensional design system, it is intended to have the basis for the operation of the new machinery in the sector, and the development, from the outset, of visible models in volume that allow speeding up decision-making processes, eliminating the manufacture of prototypes unnecessary, reduce the reaction time to the market through the rendering of models, reducing the time and costs associated with traditional design systems.

All this has been done starting from the existing systems, and from the productive machinery that is in operation at the moment in the field of computer design in two dimensions.
